Launch: Prince To Release 'Xenophobia' Boxed Set (08/20/2002)
by Chiam Chad Dougatz, New York
(8/20/02, 12 p.m. ET) --
Prince
plans to release a three-disc boxed set titled Xenophobia within the
next
few months. While no exact release date has been announced, the singer's
publicist confirms to
LAUNCH that there is a party planned in New York City in
September, to celebrate the release.
Xenophobia will be comprised of
material collected during Prince's recent One Night Alone tour, as well
as at this year's week-long Paisley Park celebration--also dubbed Xenophobia. Held in
June, Xenophobia
featured Prince and his backing band New Power Generation
sharing stage time with sax legend
Maceo
Parker, percussionist
Sheila E.,
bassist Victor Wooten, vocalist-pianist
Norah
Jones,
blues man Bernard Allison, R&B newcomer
Musiq,
and jazz vocalist
Rachelle
Ferrell. Many of those
artists are expected to be featured on
Xenophobia when it comes out.
While all three discs of the album have been completed, the
singer is still negotiating with record
companies to serve as possible
distributors. And if the "Purple One" gets his way, fans can expect DVD
extras
in the boxed set, including videos shot at Xenophobia. It is unknown however if
that video would
be the same footage director Kevin Smith (Clerks,
Dogma) shot for an expected documentary on
the event.

Launch:
Prince To Release First Live Album (08/23/2002)
by Chiam Chad Dougatz, New York
(8/23/02, 6 p.m. ET) --
Prince
will release his first-ever compilation of live material in the upcoming
boxed
set titled One Night Alone. The singer made the announcement via his NPG
Music Club website,
where members can download exclusive musical content from
the "Purple One" to their computers.
This new collection features songs all
recorded during the artist's critically acclaimed One Night Alone
tour, which
visited several cities in the U.S. and Canada earlier this year. For the outing,
Prince and
the New Power Generation hit the stage each night with no
pre-determined set list, and without
the fanfare of large stage production
elements. The results of this approach gave fans simply the
man and his music,
which is captured on the One Night Alone set.
While all the tracks appearing on the
release have not been announced, we do know that One
Night Alone will
contain the songs "Adore," "When You Were Mine," "The Everlasting Now," "The
Beautiful Ones," "Condition Of The Heart," "Strange Relationship," "Anna Stesia,"
"Diamonds
And Pearls," "Xenophobia," "Take Me With U," "Raspberry Beret," "Joy
In Repetition," "Alphabet
Street," "Nothing Compares 2 U," "I Wanna B Your
Lover," and "Rainbow Children."
The exact release date had not been announced as
of press time.

PRINCE - "One Nite Alone Live" (2CD) / "It ain't over" (CD), 2002
2 nu CD's titled "One Nite Alone Live" (2 CD-R set, no artwork, the title was written with a
pen on the cover) and "It ain't over" (CD-R) were played at Paisley Park (Studio B) during
the Celebration 2002. The first CD is a compilation of live performances ('One Nite Alone'
shows probably from New York, Los Angeles, Portland, Washington DC and/or Indianapolis)
like "One nite alone", "Anna Stesia", "The everlasting now" and "Adore").
The second CD contains live material from serveral 2002 aftershows (like LA or NY) - trax like
"Girls and Boys", "If U want me 2 stay", "Peach" - feat. artists/guests like Musiq Soulchild,
Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson (of The Roots), Sheila E. and Mr. George Clinton and a so
called "Piano-part" (from the end of one/the show, possibly from Indianapolis).
It is not clear if or when those CD's will b released at all or simply R private recordings
2 remain in Prince's vault!
